Xmas Bash Tournament 2010

So, I rocked up to both the Fantasy and 40k club tournament last weekend. Unfortunately it was only me that turned up for the Fantasy one, so it was called off, but the 40k one was more popular.

I had three enjoyable games, however once more I retained my Wooden Spoon by losing one game and drawing the next two! Although I wasn't used to the list, it was more that the opponents were all tough cookies! The loss was to Alan and his Space Wolves which, as I expected, tore me a new one, though i did give him a run for his money (at least in my head I did!). The problem was that the game involved squads keeping hold of portable objectives, and although i was allowed to give the objectives to vehicles, i really couldn't see any of my squads surviving combat against these boys! perhaps had I taken an Assault Squad, it may have been different!

the next game was against Ultramarines and the game rules this time was DoW (unlimited Troops deployment) with Kill points with the added problem that all units must take a leadership test at the start of a player turn to do anything! both of us seemed to equal out each others passes and fails and it was a very evenly matched fight ending with 5 kill points a piece!

the last game was against Matt and his Imperial Guard which was Cleanse with spearhead deployment. This was an odd game as we were each heading for the wooden spoon, and whilst we were each playing to win, I was hoping to lose (a title is still a title in my head!) and in the end we were very evenly matched by keeping the other away from our own objectives! this was the toughest fought of the 3 games and definately the most fun!

Anyway, this is the list I took:

It did give me a good lesson on how to use the army I took and also highlighted the changes I need to make. I think the bike, as fun as it was, needs to become a Land Speeder for the added versatility, at least one dreadnought is to be an Ironclad and I need some Drop Pods! the only problem with those though are where to place the Master of the Forge!?

and so to the photo you have all been waiting for: Matt and I claiming our prize!

  3. @mart - the problem with that is that i don't have the noisemarines or the bezerkers, and the army needed to be WYSIWYG!

Skaltar, definately - i really wanted to lose to your necrons at the weekend! i hold you personally responsible for me having to share my prize! ;)

  4. Try again posted a comment and its not worked. So if you ever need to borrow Berserkers mate just let me know, I have a World Eaters Army boxed up and painted, but the standard isnt great.
As to losing to me I dont think that would have happened, my Necrons lack punch. I can glance vehicles np, but finishing them off is virtually impossible.
But I have a plan just need a test subject to try it on lol.
Looking at your list you could lose both your Ven Dreads and replace them with Drop pod Ironclads with 2x Hunter killers each for the same points cost.
I agree with the comment on the attack bike, it's an easy Kill point, maybe you can lose the predator as well and replace with devastators packing 4 missiles (good against Infantry or Mech)
Only thing that you need to think of is how to contest or capture objectives?
I will have a look at SM codex and see what I can come up with. Those Vindi's are scary up close.
