...and rather auspiciously considering the Skaven releases next month, my 13th post to date!
But as I once more resist the lure of warpstone I've been contemplating how I've spent the last year in the hobby.
I started it at 40k doubles and ended it with a 40k tournament in which I had to work hard to come last without trying to come last. And you guys said i'm uncompetitive! Pah!
In between I've built up my beloved Beastmen army, I've purchased and not built an Ad Mech fleet and I've joined a great gaming club.
One of my favourite events of the year was Snorri's stag do (partly) at Warhammer World, but I've also enjoyed going to the Pennine Pillage and finding a renewedlove for 40k.
Over the last week I've already begun to reconsider the projects for the coming year. Obviously I've gotten in to the idea of my Ad Mech Space Marines and that would go hand in hand with the Ad Mech fleet, so I think that that will be my 40k project.
My latest assemblages are currently being called Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee for obvious reasons:
I've left off the Sarcophogi from Each Ironclad as I'm unsure which ones to use at present, which reminds me, I'm still on the hunt of Ad Mech bits, so please keep looking!
Regards my WFB project however, I'm unsure whether to go ahead with the Dwarfs at this stage. Two of the guys at the club are also starting on their own Dwarf armies, so a third one just seems a bit of a waste. Instead I've been thinking about finally starting my Nordland Empire Army.
So I guess that nothing has really changed, I still flit from one thing to another and still change my mind on a weekly basis and that seems set to continue in to 2011!

Hope you all had a great Christmas!
I know I did! Had a great day with the family and got loads of nice presents. Most were DVDs or clothes, but I got a few bits and pieces of GW stuff too!
Unfortunately due to a few errors, I had to change some of the items, but this is the haul I ended up with:
This little lot ought to keep me going for the year at least! So far i've assembled one of the ironclads and plan to start the second a bit later, then I hope to get the Scouts assembled before new year.
I think I shall keep the Dark Eldar presents, together with the other elements I have for them for a later time so that when I start them, I can start them from scratch.
Well I hope everyone has a great New Year and that 2011 is a good year for them!
for now, may the Emperor Protect!

I had a game at my house!
For most, not a big deal, but i've waited ages since the last time, and the difference now is that i've worked out a way to make the board 6x4! simply adjust an ironing board to the same/similar size as a table! Having this game reduces the average cost per game I host to £27.50! so i'm getting there! :D
I faced Ben's Dark Eldar with the same list as I took to the tournament and the mission was Annihilation with Pitched Battle deployment. After a decent start it became evident that i was going to lose, but i kept chipping away and thanks to a forced re-roll on a Dark Lance shot to a dreadnought I only lost by 7 kill points to 5 which was actually a lot closer than we had both originally thought. I'd had a few unluckily high scatters on some blast markers which could have made the difference!
I'm looking forward to the changes to my list which I will hopefully be able to make after Christmas, and so I shouldn't be too far off a reasonably strong force!

Xmas Bash Tournament 2010
So, I rocked up to both the Fantasy and 40k club tournament last weekend. Unfortunately it was only me that turned up for the Fantasy one, so it was called off, but the 40k one was more popular.
I had three enjoyable games, however once more I retained my Wooden Spoon by losing one game and drawing the next two! Although I wasn't used to the list, it was more that the opponents were all tough cookies! The loss was to Alan and his Space Wolves which, as I expected, tore me a new one, though i did give him a run for his money (at least in my head I did!). The problem was that the game involved squads keeping hold of portable objectives, and although i was allowed to give the objectives to vehicles, i really couldn't see any of my squads surviving combat against these boys! perhaps had I taken an Assault Squad, it may have been different!
the next game was against Ultramarines and the game rules this time was DoW (unlimited Troops deployment) with Kill points with the added problem that all units must take a leadership test at the start of a player turn to do anything! both of us seemed to equal out each others passes and fails and it was a very evenly matched fight ending with 5 kill points a piece!
the last game was against Matt and his Imperial Guard which was Cleanse with spearhead deployment. This was an odd game as we were each heading for the wooden spoon, and whilst we were each playing to win, I was hoping to lose (a title is still a title in my head!) and in the end we were very evenly matched by keeping the other away from our own objectives! this was the toughest fought of the 3 games and definately the most fun!
Anyway, this is the list I took:
and so to the photo you have all been waiting for: Matt and I claiming our prize!

1500 Pts - Space Marines RosterIt did give me a good lesson on how to use the army I took and also highlighted the changes I need to make. I think the bike, as fun as it was, needs to become a Land Speeder for the added versatility, at least one dreadnought is to be an Ironclad and I need some Drop Pods! the only problem with those though are where to place the Master of the Forge!?

A week on Fenris
s I sit here on the last weekday of my week off, in which i have stayed at home every day because a) i'm having a kitchen fitted and b) its too bloody cold to go anywhere, I've not really made that much progress with anything in particular, however I have read A Thousand Sons, and if you haven't, go and do so now!
I've also played a fair bit of Blood Bowl on the computer and managed to avoid tidying up every day.
lastly i've assembled a couple of marine units: an attack bike and some scouts (though these guys aren't yet finished.
The reason i've assembled these guys is because i've been having a play about with a few different marine list and I plan to make some changes to the normal list I field, though that is for another time!

Ponderings on the year to come!
As I shelter from the apparently not quite worst the weather has to throw at us, I'm beginning to think about what I plan to do next year gaming wise. The list is, as always with me, an extensive one, though i must be realistic.
I think it would be nice to work on perhaps four main projects within the whole year, which even then is optimistic, but you need goals afterall!
So then, what four things do I want to work on? Firstly I wouldn't mind getting back to the Dwarfs, so I think they will have to take the first slot. Apart from anything else, I plan to use the Dwarfs for next year's Mighty Empires campaign at the club, so getting on with these will take some pressure off! For 40k, thats a tough one! I think realistically, the most likely candidate is the Lash/oblit army. it is small and compact, plus I'm hoping to use it in the GT (probably Autumn now), so that is slot two! these two will probably be worked upon concurrently, so will likely impede upon each other, so will likely mean I don't have much of next year left by the time that lot is done, so best to stick with smaller projects.
Slot three is an easy choice really: get on with that Ad Mech fleet! If I can get a bit done here and there, i'd hope I will be able to break the back of it by Summer and get the fleet finished by the new year. To do so, I'll break the fleet in to squadrons and work on them as mini battle groups.
for the final slot, i'm unsure which to go for. on the one hand, I like the idea of getting my Carnival of Chaos Mordheim Warband done, but also I've been toying with custon making my own Blood Bowl Team using parts from the other ranges. I think I'll keep this slot open to whatever takes my fancy, but one thing is for sure, I intend to get the Dwarfs to at least 2.5k, the CSMs to the ToS requirement and the Ad Mech to at least 1k!
But who am I kidding? is any of this actually likely? unlikely!
